Lyford Cay Foundations participates in University of The Bahamas’ Meet the Donors and Scholars Celebration
Nassau, The Bahamas – At the Meet the Donors and Scholars Celebration held at the University of The Bahamas, Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle, Executive Director of Lyford Cay Foundations brought remarks. The Celebration took place in the Harry C. Moore Library which holds a special place in the hearts of the Foundations as the late Mr. Moore was a former Chairman of the Foundations.
“It is an honour to be here this evening representing a donor organisation whose gift has benefited some in this room,” she said.
Lyford Cay Foundations, along with several partners, answered a call made by the College of The Bahamas, now University of The Bahamas, more than 30 years ago; the goal was to ensure that Bahamians who wanted to study in The Bahamas could do so with scholarship.
Together with the leadership of the Foundations’ Chairmen, Harry Moore, Manuel Cutillas and others on the Foundations’ Boards, funds were raised to ensure that Lyford Cay Foundations could continue to support the University of The Bahamas and its students. The result of this collaboration is the Lyford Cay Foundations Award available to students attending the University of The Bahamas.
In her remarks to the gathering, Dr. Virgil-Rolle proudly stated, “I stand here today, not just representing a donor organisation, but as a beneficiary of scholarships which were impactful and transformative in my life.”
Dr. Virgill-Rolle first received a scholarship from COB to complete her Bachelor’s degree in 1991 and later she received a Lyford Cay Foundations Scholarship to assist with her studies at Vassar College. The Foundations believes communities are transformed and improved by increasing opportunities for educational attainment and is pleased that so many have benefitted from this Lyford Cay Foundations Award, including its Executive Director.
“We recognise that the beneficiaries we honour this evening, are our future workforce, educators, accountants, nurses and business leaders and national leaders. They will nurture the next generation of Bahamians,” Dr. Virgill-Rolle said.
