LYFORD CAY FOUNDATIONS’ SCHOLARSHIP PORTAL OPENS
(NASSAU, BAHAMAS) – Lyford Cay Foundations’ online scholarship application portal opens on Friday, February 14th. For consideration, applications must be submitted online at www.lyfordcayfoundations.org by the deadline of March 15th, 2025 at 5 pm.
For hundreds of Bahamians, many of whom are now leaders in their sectors, applying for a Lyford Cay Foundations scholarship was a key first step in their educational journey toward their chosen fields and in making a positive contribution to The Bahamas.
Made possible by a generous donor community, Lyford Cay Foundations offer a select number of scholarships to Bahamian citizens to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as technical and vocational training programmes, outside of The Bahamas. Canada, the Caribbean, the US and the UK are among the most common regions where Lyford Cay Scholars pursue their education.
The process is extremely competitive, and successful applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need, academic merit and how their educational pursuits will benefit needs within The Bahamas.
“Since 1969, Lyford Cay Foundations have been a contributor to the development of a prosperous, healthy and peaceful Bahamas through educational opportunities,” said Executive Director Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle. “Last year, through the generosity of our donors, Lyford Cay Foundations were able to invest nearly $1 million in the education of 32 new Scholars and 40 continuing Scholars who will become future leaders in a variety of fields.”
More information about those scholarships and many other awards from the Foundations can be accessed through the Scholarships online portal. Bahamians pursuing post-secondary education internationally are strongly encouraged to apply – especially those who will be the first in their families to attend college, those whose fields of study are not available at University of The Bahamas or Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute, and those who have given thought to how their career plans will enrich The Bahamas.
Applications are reviewed by independent committees that include a broad cross section of the community including past Scholarship recipients. All applicants will need an acceptance letter from the international college or university they plan to attend in Fall 2025 for full-time studies and must have one or more years left to pursue abroad.
Scholarship awards range in value and are renewable each year given a minimum cumulative grade point average and other eligibility criteria are maintained.
