Lyford Cay Foundations Announce First Round of 2026 Grant Awards, Continue Call for Applications Through May 10th
(NASSAU, BAHAMAS) – Lyford Cay Foundations has awarded a total of $88,500 in grants during its first funding cycle of 2026, supporting a diverse group of 9 community organisations across The Bahamas. These investments reflect the Foundations’ continued commitment to expanding access to education, skills development, and meaningful opportunities for underserved communities.
The latest cohort of grantees represents a dynamic cross-section of programmes spanning environmental education, youth development, music, mentorship, and workforce training. Collectively, these initiatives will engage hundreds of Bahamians, particularly young people, through innovative, community-based learning experiences.
Among the recipients is the Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organisation (BMMRO), which received $8,000 to expand its longstanding Whale Camp to Long Island, marking the programme’s first presence in the southern Bahamas. This hands-on initiative introduces Bahamian students to marine research, fostering environmental stewardship and inspiring future scientists.
Music education and cultural development remain a key focus, with grants awarded to the Cat Island Community Band Association and Urban Renewal Band. These programmes provide young people with access to instruments, training, and performance opportunities, creating positive outlets for expression while strengthening community ties.
Youth empowerment initiatives also featured prominently in this cycle. The D-Squad Basketball Camp will extend its reach to Eleuthera for the first time, while the Transition Mentorship Program will deliver its “Man Up” initiative, equipping young boys with leadership skills and positive role models. The Feeding Five Thousand Network will host its F.L.O.W. (Future Leaders of Worth) summer camp, offering a comprehensive blend of academic, creative, and life-skills training for inner-city youth.
Additional support was provided to FOAM Bahamas for its youth programming, and to the Zonta Club of New Providence for its P.E.A.K. programme, which focuses on the holistic development of at-risk girls.
A significant investment was also made in workforce development through a $50,000 grant to the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI). This funding will enhance student support services, expand professional training opportunities, and provide critical resources to equip Bahamians with industry-relevant skills.
Ms. Kendra Moss, Director of Programmes at Lyford Cay Foundations noted that, “These grants represent more than funding, they are investments in people, potential, and the long-term development of our communities. Each organisation is addressing real needs with thoughtful, impactful programming.”
Lyford Cay Foundations is currently accepting applications for its second grant cycle of the year. Registered non-profit organisations across The Bahamas are encouraged to apply for funding of up to $5,000 to support programmes in academic enrichment, sports, arts, and STEAM/STEM. Grants may be used to support essential programme costs, including meals, equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
