Lyford Cay Foundations pays tribute to late Board member Loretta Anne Rogers
Lyford Cay Foundations was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Loretta Anne Rogers, Director and former Chairperson of The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation. Mrs. Rogers, 83, passed away on Saturday 11th of June 2022 in Toronto, Canada. She was a committed friend of The Bahamas, a long-term member of the Lyford Cay community and a strong believer in the mission of Lyford Cay Foundations.
Mrs. Rogers served as Chairperson of The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation from 1981 to 2014 and thereafter remained a committed and active board member. She and her late husband, Mr. Ted Rogers, were founders of Rogers Communications in Canada and were dedicated philanthropists. They directly sponsored scores of Bahamian students through the Rogers Family Scholarship. More recently, in the wake of Hurricane Dorian, Mrs. Rogers and her family spearheaded the rebuilding of the Central Abaco Primary School in Marsh Harbour, Abaco and were strong supporters of the Foundations’ feeding programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Loretta was a truly remarkable person. She worked tirelessly for the Foundation and was determined to expand access to education to as many in The Bahamas as possible,” said Mr. Tim Unwin, Chairman of The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation. “She marshalled Canadian support for The Bahamas whenever there was a challenge. We at the Foundation and the many people that she impacted in The Bahamas and Canada, will miss her greatly. On behalf of The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation and the entire Lyford Cay Foundations organization, I extend my condolences to her children and family.”
The Foundations will announce further activities to commemorate the life and work of Mrs. Loretta Rogers in the coming weeks.
