Lyford Cay Foundations’ Scholarship Portal OPENS on February 1st, 2024
Undergraduate, Graduate and Technical Scholarships Available
Nassau, The Bahamas – Lyford Cay Foundations’ online scholarship application portal opens on February 1st. For consideration, applications need to be submitted online at www.lyfordcayfoundations.org by the deadline of March 15th, 2024 at 5 pm.
For hundreds of Lyford Cay Foundations’ Scholars contributing to The Bahamas across all sectors, applying for their scholarships was more than just filling out an application. It was a key step to helping them launch their dreams to lead in their chosen fields, transform their lives and positively impact the Bahamas.
Made possible by a generous donor community both locally and abroad, Lyford Cay Foundations offers a select number of scholarships to Bahamian citizens to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as technical and vocational training programmes, outside of The Bahamas. Canada, the Caribbean, the US and the UK are among the most common regions where Lyford Cay Scholars pursue their education in academic programmes not available in The Bahamas.
The process is extremely competitive and those who receive a scholarship are able to demonstrate how their educational pursuits will benefit needs within The Bahamas. Two new scholarships, Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board Award (up to $25,000 per annum) and Sir John Templeton Memorial Scholarship Award (up to $40,000 per annum), both focus on creating solutions to important national needs.
“Since 1969, Lyford Cay Foundations has been a contributor to the development of a prosperous, healthy and peaceful Bahamas through educational opportunities,” said Executive Director Dr. Nicola Virgill-Rolle. “Innovative leadership in tourism and the development of human potential are both key to the continued progress of The Bahamas. That’s why we are excited about the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board Award available for undergraduate or graduate tourism leadership programmes and the Sir John Templeton Memorial Scholarship award for graduate programmes related to human flourishing.”
This year’s scholarship offerings will also include named awards for students with an innovate idea about a project or business idea to positively impact The Bahamas as well as a number of technical scholarship awards for Diploma and technical degrees with a preference for Canada.
More information about those scholarships and many other awards from the Foundations can be accessed through the Scholarships portal. Bahamians pursuing post-secondary education internationally are strongly encouraged to apply – especially those who will be the first in their families to attend college, those whose fields of study are not available at UB or BTVI, and those who have given thought to how their career plans will enrich The Bahamas, helping to contribute solutions for increasingly complex problems.”
Applications are assessed by weighing criteria including, financial need and capacity, academic merit, accreditation of institution, availability of field of study in The Bahamas, career goals and personal qualifications. All applicants will need an acceptance letter from the international college or university they plan to attend in fall 2024 for full-time studies.
Applications are reviewed by an independent committee that includes a broad cross section of the community including past Scholarship recipients.
Scholarship awards range in value and are renewable each year given a minimum grade point average is maintained.
